Cinema Novo Film Festival (Brugge, Belgium) screens
feature films from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
From the beginning of the Film Festival in 1983 its main
purpose has stayed unaltered: to confront western audiences
with southern and oriental cultural expressions (by means of
feature films and a few documentaries) and thus to enhance the
understanding and the appreciation of these cultures.
The Festival wants to contribute to the introduction and the
promotion of films from Africa, Asia and Latin America in Belgian
film distribution. About 20,000 film fans see one or more of some
60 films, and a great number of people enjoy the fringe
activities here in Bruges. About 4,000 pupils (from 5 tot
18) attend the screening of films from one of the three continents.
