The Camera Novo Award finally goes to Carancho

A distributor in Belgium bought the runner-up in our Competition: Carancho, which means that the prize money goes to this film.

  • According to the jury The White Meadows (Moahmmad Rasoulof) deserves to become the winner of our competition. Confessions (Tetsuya Nakashima) and Carancho (Pablo Trapero) both receive an honourable mention.
  • "... an absolute masterpiece that outranks the competing films, all of which were of an exceptional level." - "...its wonderful metaphors and allegories, its rich symbolism and its almost mythological characters and scenes underscore his artistic genius."

  • The Camera Novo Award amounts to € 8,000 sponsored by the National Lottery, for the distributor who buys and distributes the winning film in Belgium.

The Amakourou Award

  • The Young Jury chose The Matchmaker (Avi Nesher). Confessions (Tetsuya Nakashima) received an honourable mention

  • The Young Jury (16 to 18-year-olds) decides on the Amakourou Award ( € 1,250 sponsored by the Province West-Vlaanderen). The sum is meant as an incentive for the director of the winning film.
